SUPPLIER DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER (FABRICATION)
Description

Acquiring those products—in the right place, at the right time, for the right cost and using the latest e-sourcing techniques—is the responsibility of our procurement team.
As a Supplier Development Engineer, you will provide technical expertise and leadership to Product Sourcing Teams for evaluation and development of new and existing suppliers worldwide, while maximizing Quality, Cost, Logistics, Delivery, and Management at the supply base. You will help to ensure that a supplier is able to meet corporate and business unit requirements for SQEP certification levels and customer requirements for quality, cost, and delivery of purchased material.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Serve as the trusted advisor for assigned supply base through the following functional responsibilities: Assessing potential suppliers via on-site Quality, Cost, Logistics, Development, Management (QCLDM) audits, driving implementation of Lean, BIQ (Build in Quality), & APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning), continuously reviewing supplier capacity, assuring production readiness through rigorous review of supplier PPAP (Production Parts Approval Process)submission, being recognized as the expert in supplier quality.
- Collaborate with suppliers to assure proper process control standards are in place and continuously monitor key manufacturing processes for improvement opportunities.
- Ensure suppliers have adequate people, training, tooling, fixturing, and equipment
- Monitor suppliers’ adherence to Process Change Notification on a timely and cost-effective basis as well as to develop the supply base to fulfil the total requirements from Caterpillar Production System (CPS) implementation.
- Support Category Strategies, supplier development & performance management and provide technical leadership in new supplier selection.
- Evaluate and develop new supplier’s technological capability to meet requirements for Caterpillar Inc.
- Responsible for the supplier’s processes from design concept to the end of product life (cradle to grave).
- Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of technological developments and trends for guidance of commodity teams in advancements of design, quality, and manufacturing.
- Provide resolution and ensure implementation of robust solutions for quality problems associated with the purchased materials, logistics, and engineering issues.
- Participate in the development of Supplier metrics and the monthly gathering and distribution of measurements.
- Support and participate in 6 Sigma initiatives with facilities, category teams, and suppliers.
- Coordinate with engineering personnel on matters regarding Concurrent Product and Process Development (CPPD), New Product Introduction (NPI), Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) teams; prove design to production, engineering changes, deviations, supplier designs, specification approvals, meeting cost reduction goals, and participates in the Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) process with suppliers manufacturing processes.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferably in engineering
- Minimum of 8 – 10 years of job-related experience
- An engineering or manufacturing background plus familiarity with manufacturing processes (specific on Welding) used to produce components and assemblies for Caterpillar Products
- Knowledge of shop operations and maintenance procedures
- Good presentation skills
- Good human relation/communication skills as well as possess the potential for leadership is required to develop a cooperative working relationship with others inside and outside of Caterpillar
- Solid ability to use and demonstrate statistical and problem-solving tools
Desired Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the tools and techniques of 6 Sigma methodology

TOOLING ENGINEER

Caterpillar’s Manufacturing Engineer position works both independently and as part of a team to maintain and improve processes and systems used in product manufacturing. You will provide expertise in specific areas of the manufacturing process to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective manufacture of product.
As Tooling Engineer, you will develop and implements optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards. You will also recommend and implements improvements to production processes, methods and controls.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Computer and computer assisted design (CAD) proficiency.
- Work directly with design engineers to produce drawings from sketches, existing drawings, and electronic images.
- Performs research, design, and development of manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods, production equipment.
- Designs, develops and tests and/or sources and cost-justify various tools, machinery and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods.
- Performs product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency.
- Responsible for Managing / Set-Up Tool Room
- Responsible for Tooling Design / Maintenance
- Responsible for specification, procurement, and coordination of maintenance and repair of tooling in production lines
- Placing orders for fixtures, positioners, lifting devices, machines and other equipment and overseeing installations.
- Meeting with vendors to ensure the quality and timeliness of fixtures, positioners, lifting devices, machines and other fabrication equipment.
- Propose and lead Green Belt fabrication improvement project through CPS or Six Sigma methodology.
- Adheres to established standards, policies and practices relating to quality, cost reduction, safety, ergonomics, CPS transformation etc., in performing assigned duties.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related Technical degree
- Minimum of 5 (five) years experiences in mechanical design or tool design
- Proficient level English, communication and writing
- Proficient in 3D Drawing software, Creo is preferred, MS. Office, etc.
- Familiar with OHSAS standards related to heavy industry
- Good communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Desired Qualifications:
- Having experiences in improvement projects with Six Sigma or other methodology is a plus
- Fluent in English

This is a staff position which is expected to function as a specialist with respect to a specific technical phase of the planning function and which generally falls within the major areas of releasing, test process, layout, work standards and manufacturing development.

- Capital forecasting correlation and reporting as it relates to new product introduction, prime product capacity increases, machine replacement, and methods improvement
- Substituting material or combining similar parts to realize savings through material prices and machining costs.
- Analyze tooling failures, testing troubleshooting and evaluate tool characteristics and requirements.
- Plan factory and office layouts for effective utilization of space due to rearrangement
- New processes or expansion, determining the need for modern facilities
- Test planning.
- Develop and implement assembly processes in line with CPPD (Concurrent Process and Product Development) and NPI design changes, etc.
- Adheres to established standards, policies and practices relating to quality, cost reduction, safety, ergonomics, etc. in performing assigned duties.
Required Qualifications:
- University degree in a Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering-related degree.
- Minimum of 3 years as a Machining Engineer or related role
- Prior experience working in a manufacturing environment
- Thorough knowledge of manufacturing concepts related to testing process
- Ability to read, and thorough knowledge of, mechanical drawings and related machining design requirements
- Thorough knowledge of Hydraulic Systems
- Machining programming experience
- Good communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Desired Qualifications:
- Ability to work with a diverse group of employees and customers
- Ability to read hydraulic schematic diagram
- Ability to read of the electrical schematic diagram
- Able to create 3D design is a plus
- Have programming skill such as C/C++ or VB is a plus
- Fluent in English
